　　About the role:

　　We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Molecular Oncology Group lead by Prof Richard Marais, Senior Group leader of the Molecular Oncology Group and Director of the CRUK Manchester Institute (www.cruk.manchester.ac.uk/MolOnc). This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, innovative, meticulous and organised candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The post-holder will develop a project within SPECIFICANCER, our recently announced CRUK Grand Challenge which aims to understand how oncogenes drive cancer in a tissue-specific manner (cruk.org/specificancer).

　　One of the most important observations from cancer genetics is that bona fide cancer drivers show a bewildering spectrum of tissue specificity, which is undoubtedly rooted in the biology of tissues and plays a role in the efficacy of treatment paradigms. In particular, our group will focus on deciphering the mechanistic basis of the selectivity of mutations in the RAS signaling pathway as drivers of melanoma or non-melanoma skin cancer. Together with the other SPECIFICANCER teams, we will develop detailed understanding of how the genes that drive cancer do so in a tissue-specific manner. Our discoveries will allow scientists and physicians to better interpret the role of tissue and cellular context in their assessment of disease and subsequent treatment decisions.
