  Job Description

  General Description of the Position:

  The Associate Dean for Research and External Funding serves as a catalyst for identifying opportunities, facilitating interdisciplinary projects, and working with campus-wide initiatives related to faculty research and external funding efforts; promoting, supporting, and recognizing faculty and student research development and success; coordinating graduate studies; and facilitating college-wide initiatives related to the mission of the College. This is a full-time, 12-month position beginning no later than August 2019.

  Kansas State University is a comprehensive land-grant university of over 22,000 students and nearly 3,000 faculty located in Manhattan, Kansas. The university is recognized by the Princeton Review as one of America's best colleges, and U.S. News & World Report lists the university among the top 75 public universities in the country. It is a three-campus system with the main campus located in Manhattan, and the other campuses in Olathe and Salina. Online degree programs, professional development conferences and workshops, and enrichment classes and programs are offered through the K-State Global Campus.

  Serving approximately 1,300 undergraduate and 900 graduate students, the College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Kansas State Department of Education. The College prepares more K-12 teachers than any other institution in Kansas and has received national recognition for its Professional Development School model. The College also houses nationally recognized graduate programs, including but not limited to masters and doctoral programs in student affairs and counseling, curriculum and instruction, and educational leadership, as well as housing national and international centers.

  Job Description/Responsibilities:

  1.               Research: Oversee College-wide research initiatives and support, represent the College at Research Associate Deans Council, manage Distinguished Education Research Scholar lecture series, maintain active research agenda and professional engagement

  2.               External Funding: Promote and build capacity for external funding awards to faculty, promote College participation in large cross-college proposals at the university level, successfully pursue external funding

  3.               Graduate studies: Represent the College at meetings of the Graduate School, convene graduate faculty meetings, convene department graduate program directors and follow-up with needed actions

  4.               Teach research courses, as needed, and supervise graduate students

  5.               Represent the Dean and complete additional duties as needed

  Required Minimum Qualifications:

  1.               Doctoral degree in education or closely aligned field

  2.               Minimum of three years of experience in higher education administration, leadership, or program/center directorship

  3.               Qualifications for full professorship, including a high level of research experience and significant research publications

  4.               Strong record of developing successful proposals for external funding and guide faculty in securing external funding.

  5.               Research expertise with ability to teach research courses and guide students and faculty in conducting research

  6.               Ability to work in a team-based environment to achieve common goals

  7.               Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion

  Preferred Qualifications:

  1.               Has been a PI or Co-PI on at least one large multi-department, college or university project funded at the federal level supporting the mission of a college of education.

  2.               Success in coaching the development of proposals for external funding
