　　Job Description

　　The candidate will work as a USDA/ARS Research Microbiologist Associate (post-doc) in the Genetics, Breeding, and Animal Health Unit (GBAHU) at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC), Clay Center, Nebraska and will conduct research on bacterial respiratory pathogens of cattle, with an emphasis on Mannheimia haemolytica. The candidate will evaluate genomic determinants of M. haemolytica that influence or associate with pathogenicity at the molecular level for the eventual development of improved vaccines or diagnostics. Basic microbiological laboratory techniques and custom designed molecular assays will be used to test the expression, location, and biological role(s) of M. haemolytica genetic determinants of pathogenicity. A wide variety of methodologies, approaches, and analytical instrumentation may be used in combination with whole-genome sequencing technology to conduct the research. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop next generation vaccines that effectively target pathogenic M. haemolytica strains with minimal cross-reactivity to commensal members of the cattle microbiome. This job is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents seeking U.S. citizenship. Salary is $61,218 to $79,586 per year. Funding is for two years.

　　•                A Ph.D. that was obtained in Microbiology or Biology, Chemistry or a related field of study such as Virology, Immunology, Biochemistry, etc. that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. The PhD should have been obtained within the last four years.

　　•                Pre-employment fingerprint check with successful adjudication is required.

　　•                Strong skills with microbiology and molecular biological techniques.
