摘要:

Job description

In integrated photonics, Silicon has emerged as the most promising technology in order to integrate nonlinear functions such as wavelength converters. However, its strong two-photon absorption (TPA) at telecommunication wavelength is still an issue. Therefore, we propose another nonlinear platform: the Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). Indeed, it is a low cost material compared to III-V semiconductors. It handles high power intensities and is non-toxic compared to chalcogenide glasses. It is transparent from the visible to the mid-infrared wavelength.TiO2 has also an easier deposition process compared to Si3N4 and a higher nonlinearity.
However the main drawback is actually the signififcant loss typically as high as 4 dB/cm at 1550 nm. This is mainly related to deposition and to structring conditions. Therefore, our main objective is the fabrication of low loss titanium dioxide waveguide.
Thus the project will involve mainly the development of new processes for fabrication of TiO2 waveguides in clean-room and the characterization of the device performance.

Candidate profile

Applicants should have a PhD in physics or optics with solid background in nano or micro-fabrication and related characterization. More precisely, the candidate must have experience in E-beam and UV lithography, dry etching (ICP-RIE), deposition of metal and oxide layers (magnetron sputtering, e-beam evaporation and eventually PECVD), AFM. Ideally, the candidate should be able to perform Comsol and Matlab simulations for waveguide design and should have skills on Labview in order to control characterization setup.
