Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Researcher, under general supervision, designs, performs, and analyzes experiments; carries out modeling work on an externally funded grant. He/she mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.

Job Description

A postdoctoral research associate with academic and research background in material science, mechanical or aerospace engineering, or closely related field in needed to work on a funded grant. The position will focus on development of advanced lightweight fiber reinforced composites that are enhanced by incorporation of nanoparticles. Work will involve modification of polymers used in the fabrication and their characterization for nanoscale properties, interface with fibers; fabrication of laminated composites and their static and dynamic characterization before and after subjecting to extreme environmental conditions. Candidate should be well versed with advanced composite materials, have prior experiences in related fields with a demonstrated records of journal and conference publications. The postdoc will work closely with the principal investigator, graduate and undergraduate students. The postdoc will also be responsible for high-level technical publications and proposal writing, interact with vendors, networking with industry partners and other academic collaborators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  Designs, performs, and analyzes experiments consistent with project objectives.

  Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.

  Develops procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analyses.

  Identifies, assimilates, and synthesizes data needed for computer models and manages databases relating to statistical and related software.

  Keeps up-to-date on scientific research via reading of literature, etc. Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.

  Prepares data for publication and presentation. Writes grants and proposals to acquire external funding.

  Coordinates laboratory activities. Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards.

  Provides all the data generated through research activities carried on a period basis to the principal investigator as needed.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Ph.D. in Materials Science or Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or closely related field

Experience – Four years of related experience.

Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently once given a project.

Other Requirements

  Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

  Travel may be required to attend and present at conferences and program review meetings.
