Job Description Summary

The Postdoctoral research associate is responsible for conducting experimental neuroscience research lab, including epilepsy and seizure models, and brain disease paradigms. The person is responsible for data compilation, analysis, interpretation and preparation of scientific manuscripts. The person is responsible to assist other research staff in implementing experimental studies and support with the neurological techniques and data analysis in the project.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Appropriate PhD

Preferred Education:

-PhD in pharmacology or neuroscience.

Preferred Experience:

-Relevant postdoc working experience in epilepsy neuroscience research lab

-Experience in experimental epilepsy techniques and execution

-Experience in behavioral studies and interpretation

-Experience in brain histology, pharmacological studies and data compilation

-Track-record of writing and publishing research manuscripts

-Experience with lab research compliance such as chemicals and lab animals. -

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of advanced brain research, epilepsy and EEG experimentation and analysis.

Knowledge of organophosphate neurotoxicity, training and antiseizure drug discovery.

Knowledge of research compliance, its implementation and data keeping.

Passionate about translational epilepsy neuroscience models.

Experience working with animal EEG studies, data compilation and analysis.

Experience working with rodent models, brain surgery, animal care and monitoring.

Ability to organize, conduct and report pharmacological studies and experiments.

Ability to design, execute and collect brain EEG recording and seizure studies.

Ability to organize and lead studies of temporo-spatial progression of seizures, and behavioral patterns.

Ability to conduct high-quality, independent research and publish high-impact papers.

Ability to work with a team of colleagues and collaborators in implementing project goals.

Advanced ability and knowledge in epilepsy neuroscience research

Proficient in epilepsy and related brain research techniques.

Expertise and knowledge of advanced brain EEG recording and analysis

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Job Responsibilities

50%: Epilepsy Neuroscience Research

Plan and perform neuroscience and epilepsy research experiments with advanced methods and techniques in the lab. Develop approaches and scholarly activities including cutting-edge techniques to address translational questions in epilepsy research. A commitment for excellence in performing and analyzing neuroscience research.

Development of neurosteroid treatments for epilepsy and OP neurotoxicity. Design and perform experiments procedures involving epilepsy and seizure studies. Organize and conduct studies of brain EEG studies and extended monitoring.

Design and execute pharmacological studies, PK and analytical studies in the lab. Responsible for performing survival surgical operations relevant to the project and all tools.

Assist and train other members in the lab to execute the research projects. Train students and research staff to perform research studies and compliance issues.

30%: Neuroscience Data and Analysis

Systematic organization of studies and data recording. Make presentations of research outcomes at local and national scientific meetings.

Prepare and archive of scientific records, sample inventory, and research database. Write and edits manuscripts related to ongoing projects and completing project progress reports.

Assist the PI in gathering relevant material for writing grants and participate in grant writing. Analyze and interpret temporo-spatial progression of seizures, and behavioral patterns.

15% General lab management

Lab compliance, ordering and inventory of lab materials for research projects. Coordinate with vendors and maintain scientific supplies and equipment; Prepare and maintain record and lab protocols. Communicate with college and campus research offices.

5%: Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.
