Job Description
Image-Guided Chemistry in Oncology
A postdoctoral research fellowship is immediately available in the Department of Interventional Radiology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The fellow will participate in a highly productive multi-disciplinary research program exploring advanced imaging technology and methods investigating the effects of cell stress via thermochemistry in cancer and potential applications. The lab is particularly interested in studying various categories of exothermic reactions performed in situ under image guidance, methods to quantitatively monitor such reactions, stress response pathways, and the tumor microenvironment. The fellow will have an opportunity to contribute to ongoing basic and translational research within a multidisciplinary team environment and will be encouraged to explore and develop new areas of research interest.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in chemistry, molecular biology, radiation biology, imaging physics, biophysics, or mechanical or biomedical engineering and must have a working knowledge of animal models and MRI scanner operation and sequence development/optimization. Research experience with MR-thermometry, multi-energy CT, cell culture, heat shock proteins, stress response pathways, tumor ablation, embolization, hyperthermia, thermodynamics, heat transfer, nanoparticles and immunohistochemistry are a plus. However, applications from outstanding candidates in other spheres of expertise may be considered. Preference will be given to individuals who are about to graduate, or have graduated within the last 12 months. Strong preference will be given to individuals who are already in the United States, either as citizens or permanent residents, or have relevant work permits. Numerous opportunities for collaboration, presentation at meetings, grant writing and manuscript writing will be available, and these are expected to be leveraged by the successful applicant. Qualified candidates are expected to work independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated, have critical thinking abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills.
MD Anderson is centered in the vibrant research environment of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, which includes Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas Medical School, the Methodist Hospital Research Institute, and Rice University, and ranks 1st in the number of awarded grants from National Cancer Institute. It offers active graduate and postdoctoral training programs and the unmatched scientific environment of the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest biomedical center.
This is a two-year position with the potential of being extended for an additional year. Interested candidates should send a CV with 3 references and a brief synopsis of research interests, activities, and career goals to:
