Mechanobiology Postdoctoral Fellow : Stanford, CA, United States

Stanford ChEM-H is an independent institute at Stanford University, formed in partnership with the Schools of Medicine, Humanities and Sciences, and Engineering.

The Stanford ChEM-H Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Training Program in Quantitative Mechanobiology will provide co-mentored, interdisciplinary postdoctoral training for recent PhD students from engineering and physical science programs under the research theme, “Mechanobiology: How the mechanics of molecules, cells, and tissues regulate biological structure and function.” ChEM-H Mechanobiology Fellows from engineering and the physical sciences will have access to the required mentorship and resources in both leading labs in the life sciences and engineering and quantitative sciences, as well as exposure to biology’s most challenging problems. This program seeks to increase the number of scientists trained to conduct high-quality research that combines insights derived from, and cuts across, different scientific, technical, and biomedical areas.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Junior investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease.
  • Candidates must hold an advanced degree in engineering or quantitative/physical sciences (Ph.D., D.Sc.) and have demonstrated research interests in their primary quantitative discipline. The candidate should have demonstrated professional accomplishments consonant with his or her career status, and should have demonstrated experience or interest in pursuing research (including research outside of biomedicine, behavior, bioimaging, or bioengineering).
  • Degree must be completed between May 15, 2014 and Sept. 15, 2016.
  • By the time of award, the individual must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence (i.e., possess a currently valid Permanent Resident Card USCIS Form I-551, or other legal verification of such status). Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible.
