摘要:

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available in Dr Dragana Ahel’s group at the Dunn School of Pathology (http://www.path.ox.ac.uk/research/cell-biology-and-pathology/dragana-ahel-group). The main research area of the laboratory is studying mechanisms of genome stability and the role they play in cancer and human disease. The Dunn School focuses on the cell biology that underlies human disease and provides a first class research environment.

We are looking to appoint an ambitious and independent postdoc who is keen to join our work in this exciting area. Applicants should have a PhD in Biology or Biochemistry or a related subject, and have high level of competence in in general molecular biology techniques, cell biology, protein biochemistry or genetics. Experience in the area of DNA repair and DNA replication would be an advantage.

Responsibilities/duties

• Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management and co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines
• Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
• Test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, and be able to review and refine working hypotheses as appropriate
• Work with limited supervision to identify, develop, modify and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project
• Communicate progress effectively with the the PI, the group and collaborators
• Contribute ideas for new research projects
• Present detailed research proposals to senior researchers
• Undertake comprehensive and systematic literature reviews and write up the results for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment
• Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques
• Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone
• Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups
• Work efficiently, cost-effectively and in a flexible manner
• Maintain lab reagents (chemicals, antibodies, plasmids etc.), cell lines and databases in good order

Selection criteria
Essential

• Hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience in cell biology, genetics or protein biochemistry
• Experience and expertise in general molecular biology techniques and experimentation
• Sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to help develop new research projects within established research programmes
• Previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations and ability to bring new research to publication
• Experience of independently managing a discrete area of a research project
• Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and grant proposals
• Good communication skills, including the ability form collaborations, prepare research for publication and present at national and international meetings

Desirable

• First author papers in high-profile scientific journals
• Prior experience in the DNA damage response, DNA replication or chromatin field
• Experience with genetics of model organisms
• Holder of a Home Office licence…
