　　Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biomedical Ultrasound/Biomedical Engineering

　　A Postdoctoral Research Associate position with strong experimental experience in the areas of biomedical ultrasound or biomedical engineering is sought to join the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics at the Heart and Vascular Institute, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. John J. Pacella, MD. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Pacella in developing a translational research program in sonothrombolysis. A major project focus involves the application of ultrasound contrast agents for microvascular reperfusion during ischemia. There will also be an opportunity to test ultrasound therapeutic efficacy both in vitro models and in animal models. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively with the members of the Center comprised of faculty of different backgrounds, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and technicians.

　　The Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics is engaged in both basic and translational investigations involving ultrasound contrast agents for imaging and therapy with a broad range of biomedical applications. The Center particularly emphasizes development of multidisciplinary and novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases using principles of ultrasound and acoustically active agents as molecular probes and/or therapeutic delivery agents. The Center houses one of the most advanced ultra-high speed camera systems dedicated for the study of microbubble dynamics and mechanisms of ultrasound and microbubble mediated therapy. Dr. Pacella is fully committed to the professional development of his trainees, and he especially welcomes applications from women and underrepresented minorities. 　　The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in biomedical ultrasound, biomedical engineering, or related field. Applicants must have significant background or experience conducting research in ultrasound related disciplines. Experience in in vivo preclinical research, although not mandatory, would be an advantage. Candidates must also demonstrate scientific communication skills, enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
