Position Summary:

Barry’s group at Virginia Tech is seeking for an outstanding post-doctoral fellow in mechanical engineering with expertise in nonlinear vibration. The position will focus on vibration in ultra-precision manufacturing machines, friction induced vibration, and vibration assisted machining. The responsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow will include:
• Develop nonlinear dynamic models and perform stability analyses
• Set up and conduct experiments
• author conference and journal publications
• present research at professional conferences
• Assist in preparation of research proposals
• Assist in mentoring and supervising graduate and undergraduate students

Required Qualifications:

1. PhD (within the last 2 years) in mechanical engineering
2. Strong background in nonlinear vibration
3. Experience in machining vibration, vibration assisted machining (VAM), or friction induced vibration
4. Knowledge in manufacturing
5. Proficiency in Matlab and Maple or Mathematica
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
7. Ability to develop independent research projects
8. Proven track record of first author publications and research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Strong background in Mathematics
2. Strong background in nonlinear dynamics
3. Proficiency in programing
4. Experience in modeling and analysis
5. Experience in experimental work
6. Evidence of good project and lab management skills
