Blizard Institute

Centre for Genomics and Child Health

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – 18months

Ref: QMUL14802

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow post in Prof Silvia Marino’s lab at the Blizard Institute. The group is a multidisciplinary research group composed of basic scientists, computational biologists and clinical researchers focusing on the integration and analysis of large-scale (epi)genetic and (epi)genomic data as well as on focussed target gene approach studies to understand the role of dysregulated epigenetic mechanisms in initiation and progression of brain tumours (Badodi et al. Cell Reports 2017, Niklison-Chirou et al. G&D 2017, Dibenedetto et al. Stem Cell Reports 2017). For more information about the lab please visit https://www.qmul.ac.uk/blizard/staff/centre-for-genomics-and-child-health/staff/silvia-marino.html

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in cellular and/or molecular biology, genetics or a related field. The project will use CRISPR-based transcription modulation and epigenome editing to assess the functional relevance of the epigenetic changes identified in a syngeneic comparison between glioblastoma initiating cells and neural stem cells and will seek to robustly validate the findings on tissue samples and datasets derived thereof. Prior experience in next generation sequencing data analysis is desirable but not essential. All applicants should have a strong motivation for pursuing an ambitious research agenda in an international and competitive research environment.

The post is based in the Blizard Institute, Whitechapel Campus. The Blizard Institute provides a stimulating scientific environment and state of the art infrastructure and facilities. In the 2014 REF, the Medical School is ranked 7th in Clinical Medicine with 90% of research rated as 3*+ 4* in the overall power ranking for these unit of assessments. In Clinical Medicine, QMUL was ranked 4th nationally for quality of outputs.

This is a full-time fixed time post for 18months in the first instance, with a starting salary at the appropriate point for experience on the research Grade 4 scale between £32,956 and £38,709 per annum inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Prof Silvia Marino, s.marino@qmul.ac.uk.

Details about the Institute can be found at www.blizard@qmul.ac.uk.
