A postdoctoral position is available at the KG Jebsen Centre for B-cell malignancies. The position will be affiliated with the Lymphoma Biology Group at the Institute for Cancer Research, headed by Erlend B. Smeland and June H. Myklebust, and the position is available from June 1, 2018 for 3 years.

The KG Jebsen Centre includes 3 research labs and 2 clinical groups at Oslo University Hospital, located at Rikshospitalet and Radiumhospitalet, and currently counts more than 40 members. The centre aims to improve the biological understanding of B-cell malignancies, and will translate these advances into improved patient treatment. B-cell malignancies are cancers derived from B-lymphocytes of the immune system and constitute a heterogeneous group of malignancies. A precise diagnosis is crucial, as the different disease types require different treatment regimens for optimal control. The centre is a multidisciplinary integration of life science research including drug discovery, design and innovation, molecular biology and molecular medicine/personalized medicine, biostatistics/informatics, ground breaking cell-based immunotherapy, as well as clinical trials and establishment of best practice on how to treat B-cell malignancies.

The position will be affiliated with the Lymphoma Biology Group, which focuses on translational studies in B-cell lymphoma. The research milieu consists of immunology researchers with research background in medicine, biology, biochemistry and biotechnology, experts in computational biology and biostatistics, oncologists with translational research experience and hematopathologists, and we have extensive international collaboration. The position is integrated in the KG Jebsen centre research focus to identify molecular predictive signatures for B-cell malignancies and to gain new biological insight in tumor cell heterogeneity and the interplay with the microenvironment.

The centre uses primary patient samples from patients included in clinical trials. The hired postdoc will be a core member of the team seeking to 1) study how various T cell subsets play a role in the pathogenesis and progression of B cell malignancies, 2) characterize intratumor heterogeneity through single cell proteomic analysis and RNA sequencing, (3) map intracellular signaling and map sensitivity of cancer drugs in patient samples (4) identify new targets for therapy, including immunotherapy.

The hired postdoc will use single cell proteomics technologies, including advanced fluorescent flow cytometry and mass cytometry, various cell biology and immunological assays, as well as in vitro cell cultures. The project is conducted in close collaboration with other postdocs in the lab, lymphoma clinicians and members of the KG Jebsen centre. 

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

• Applicants must hold a PhD in cancer biology, immunology or cell biology and candidates with documented strong background in immunology and cancer biology will be preferred.
• Experience from work with single cell proteomics technologies such as advanced flow cytometry or mass cytometry is required.
• Experience from analysis of high-dimensional data and use of bioinformatics tools and programming will be an advantage, and experience with research on cancer biology will be preferred.
• Proficient in written and oral English.
• The candidate should be highly motivated and dedicated. Good team working skills are required.

• Salary NOK 490 900 – NOK 569 000 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow (position code 1352).
