Postdoctoral Associate – Neuronal development and degeneration - Cornell University : Ithaca, NY, United States

The Han lab in the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology at Cornell University (http://han.wicmb.cornell.edu/) invites applications for postdoctoral positions. We welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about studying cell biology of neurons using Drosophila as an in vivo model system. The Han lab focuses on three research areas: (1) signaling and cell-cell interactions in dendrite morphogenesis; (2) mechanisms of neuronal degeneration, clearance, and repair; (3) development of novel genetic and cell biology tools (such as optogenetics and CRISPR) for studying neurobiology. One postdoctoral position is available for investigating engulfment of neuronal dendrites and axons by phagocytes under physiological and pathological conditions. The second position is for developing light-controllable tools to investigate spatiotemporally regulated mechanisms of dendrite development using our newly developed long-term time-lapse imaging method for larval neurons.

Candidates with a recent/expected Ph.D. should have a strong background and technical skills in molecular biology, cell biology, microscopy, and image analysis. Experience with the Drosophila system is desirable. Candidates should be independent and highly motivated, with no more than one year of postdoctoral experience. Anticipated start date is September 1st, 2018 or sooner. Generous stipends and benefits will be provided according to NIH NRSA postdoctoral stipend levels.

As the home of twelve highly interactive labs specialized on various aspects of cell biology research, the Weill Institute houses numerous state-of-art imaging, biochemical, molecular biology equipment on the central Cornell campus. Cornell provides abundant training opportunities and excellent support for postdoctoral fellows. Diversity and Inclusion are a part of our heritage. We are a recognized employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans and Individuals with Disabilities. The Cornell Ithaca campus is located in a scenic environment of the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York, and is known as one of the most beautiful campus in the United States. Ithaca also offers culturally diverse communities.

Interested candidates should contact Dr. Chun Han (chun.han@cornell.edu) and provide a research statement, CV, and three reference letters….
