Postdoc Position : 48149 Münster, Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine in Münster (http://www.mpi-muenster.mpg.de), Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (Prof. Dr. Hans R. Schöler) invites applications for

2 Postdoctoral Positions
Position 1: Developmental Biologist
position code: 10-2018
Position 2: Electrophysiologist
position code: 11-2018

We are looking for self-motivated, organized and creative postdoctoral researchers, which will closely interact with the interdisciplinary team of the Max Planck Institute in Münster.

Projects will center around modeling and analyzing human brain tissue in vitro. The selected candidates will work in a highly creative environment, focusing on important aspects of human pluripotency and multi-lineage cellular differentiation using cutting-edge technologies (e.g., molecular modelling, single-cell transcriptomics and proteomics, next-generation sequencing, robotic cell culture, organoid models, high resolution microscopy, and advanced methods in electrophysiology). The selected candidates will establish new and improved differentiation protocols as well as analysis tools for the induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) field.

Position 1: Developmental Biologist
The ideal candidate is expected to have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Biology, and/or related fields. Previous experience with cell culture and basic molecular biology skills are a must. A preference will be given to candidates with additional experience in epigenetics, directed differentiation of human iPSCs, stem cell-derived 3D culture systems, genome-editing, and/or molecular and cellular biology techniques.

Position 2: Electrophysiologist
The ideal candidate is expected to have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Neurobiology, and/or Biology. Expertise in whole-cell patch clamp and/or micro-electrode-array (MEA) recordings and live-imaging of neuronal cultures is required. Experience in biochemistry and molecular biology is preferred. The project will include, but is not limited to, basic neuronal biology, ion channel activity, and synaptic transmission in single neurons and network scenarios. Additional experience in advanced molecular and cellular biology, directed differentiation of human iPSCs, spheroid/organoid technology, and/or electrophysiological techniques is advantageous.

The appointments are full-time positions for a period of three years, starting from May 2018 or later. All conditions for the employment will be according to the regulations of the contracts for the civil service (TVöD, Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst) level 13 TVöD.
The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine offers a dynamic, international and multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art transgenic, imaging, genomics and proteomics equipment and core facilities. The working language in the institute is English. A childcare facility is situated in the guesthouse of the institute next to the main building. The institute is located in Münster that has been awarded LivCom-Award for ‘The World’s Most Liveable City’ by the UN.

The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
Furthermore, the Max-Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
