Postdoctoral Fellow-Large-scale functional proteomics of rare disease variants : Toronto, Canada

Donnelly Centre for Cellular & Biomolecular Research
University of Toronto

JOB POSTINGPOSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Area of Research:
Are you interested in translating rapidly accumulating genomic knowledge in rare diseases into functional insights? Do you want to pioneer novel proteomic technologies to understand the functional consequences of disease mutations? Would you like to be part of an enthusiastic and diverse group of scientists in Toronto, the Canadian biomedical hub?

The Taipale and Gingras labs at the University of Toronto are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join their team to functionally characterize the molecular effects of rare disease variants. In this project, we turn the traditional rare disease research setting upside down: instead of studying a single disease with multiple methods, we will study hundreds of Mendelian diseases in parallel with functional proteomics approaches, such as AP-MS and BioID. In particular, we are interested in how disease-causing mutations spatially and temporally affect cellular interaction networks and how network perturbation is linked to disease pathogenesis at the molecular level.

Description of duties:
We are looking for a highly-motivated and well-organized candidate to lead this ambitious project. The project will involve generating and analyzing very large proteomic datasets and translating standard interactome hairballs into functional insights. Thus, demonstrated experience in functional genomics and proteomics, bioinformatics, or mammalian models of disease are particularly valued.

Salary:
Compensation will be in the range of $40-$50,000 per year depending on experience.

Required qualifications:
The ideal candidate has a recently awarded PhD in molecular biology or cell biology with a very strong publication record.
