Postdoctoral Fellow

A postdoctoral fellow position is available starting immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Nathan W. Schmidt, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Louisville, Louisville KY. The research focus is on infectious disease immunology. In particular, we are interested in understanding malaria pathogenesis and the host immune response to Plasmodium, using the murine model of malaria.

The main objective of the position is to determine how the gut microbiome shapes susceptibility to severe malaria.

The successful candidate will conduct research projects, analyze data, write manuscripts and is expected to carry out his or her projects independently. Applicants should have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in immunology or microbiology. Experience and background in cellular immunology, animal models, and microbial community analysis are highly desired, but not required. In addition, the applicant should be self-motivated, hard working, and a model lab citizen.
