A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine (BCMM), at the Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH), in the laboratories of Drs. Susan Hodge and David Greenberg. Our collaborating laboratories offers a unique blend of methodological research, real data analysis, and software development. Our goal is to understand the genetic origins of common diseases such as diabetes, epilepsy, thyroid disease, and other diseases that plague humans but whose inheritance is poorly understood. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated team of Investigators, postdocs, and graduate students, who are committed to the study of human complex traits and who unite theoretical and molecular biology laboratory methods to solve real problems. Our well-equipped laboratories include high-speed parallel computer clusters for genetic analysis and computer simulation, as well as molecular biology laboratories where we generate data using both human DNA and mouse experiments.

Responsibilities: With guidance from a CRI mentor, design experiments and develops protocols required to conduct productive research in a specific scientific area. After the study has been designed, performs the research work in accordance with the protocol. Helps to train and supervise technical support staff in performing specific techniques essential to carrying out the research program. Records and analyzes data generated by the research study, and helps to plan future research endeavors. Prepares scientific and technical papers from the results of the research work. Publishes papers in appropriate refereed scientific journals. Presents findings at local (particularly CRI research meetings) and national research forums. If appropriate, collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at CRI or at The Ohio State University. This is considered a training position therefore the RI will allow a trainee 5 years to advance beyond the level of Post Doc. Works toward research independence. Prepares to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.

Other information: Reports to: Either established CRI principal investigator (i.e. OSU faculty member) or a CRI Senior Research Scientist for guidance in research endeavors Qualified applicants should have a strong quantitative background, and individuals holding a doctoral degree in Genetics, Statistics, Mathematics, Biomathematics, Biostatistics, or Statistical Genetics are encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. MD, Ph.D, Pharm.D., or equivalent degree. 2. Four or more years of experience as Post Doc in a highly related scientific research field. 3. Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research. 4. Ability to do technical writing, and good communication skills.
