The ‘Center for Functional Proteomics’ headed by Christian Münch at the Goethe University Frankfurt (https://molsysmed.de/) invites applications for
a Proteomics Expert (postdoc or senior staff scientist) position(f/m/d, E 13, TV-G-U)
in the field of MS-based proteomics. The position is to be filled as soon as possible and originally limited to 2 years with the option of extension.
The Proteomics Center houses three state-of-the-art LC-MS systems (Q Exactive HF, Orbitrap Fusion LUMOS, Orbitrap Ascend, soon a Tims TOF Ultra 2) and a AssayMAP Bravo to carry out a wide range of proteomics methods to study biological questions in multiple areas, including proteostasis/autophagy, targeted protein degradation (PROTACs), inflammation, cancer, infection and ageing. We have developed a range of proteomics and bioinformatics tools to study protein dynamics at the level of translation, degradation and import into organelles (Klann et al. Mol Cell 2020, Nature 2020, Schäfer et al. Mol Cell 2022, Delaunay et al. Nature 2022, Koschade et al. Leukemia 2022, Sutandy et al. Nature 2023). We are part of and work with several research clusters, such as the Cluster4Future PROXIDRUGS (https://proxidrugs.de/en), Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary Institute (https://cpi-online.de/), Excellence Cluster SCALE (https://scale-frankfurt.org/), Collaborative Research Cluster 1177 Selective Autophagy (https://sfb1177.de/), Fraunhofer Innovation Center Innovative Therapeutics (https://www.fraunhofer.de/en/institutes/cooperation/high-performance-centers/theranova.html), LOEWE Cluster CoroPan on coronaviruses, and CRC1531 Damage Control by the stroma-vascular Compartment (https://sfb1531.de/). In summary, we are a state-of-the art proteomics unit at the forefront of basic and translational research.
Job description. We are seeking enthusiastic and self-driven candidates from all areas of proteomics. The position will be part of and contribute to the Proteomics Centre, which ensures instrument uptime, up-to-date proteomics workflows, high-quality proteomics data, and supports scientists in the different aspects of proteomics methodology and data analysis. Key responsibilities are:
Establishing/developing robust quantitative proteomics workflows
Collaboration with and supporting of biological proteomics projects
Quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation
Obtain, analyse and communicate high quality proteomics data
Identify, advise and teach proteomics workflows to collaboration partners
Your profile. The candidate will need to be excited about proteomics and bringing an extensive background in proteomics and its use in biological/clinical questions. Experience in proteomics experimental planning/sample preparation from cells and tissues, data analysis, handling of MS systems (ideally Orbitrap systems) and liquid chromatography is required. Additionally, familiarity with precursor and reporter ion quantification & PTM analysis tools, and experience in programming languages like R and/or Python would be essential. Experience in and/or a willingness to expand the portfolio of proteomics methods (e.g. PRM, DIA, automation/analysis pipelining, single cell proteomics) are considered a plus. The candidate(s) should hold a PhD or an equivalent degree in life sciences or related disciplines, obtained in a lab focusing on proteomics or closely collaborating with a proteomics group/center.
We offer a job full of variety in an in interdisciplinary and international team. A fully equipped proteomics centre with many opportunities to contribute with your own ideas and to develop leadership opportunities. Exposure to a wide range highly competitive biology/clinical projects and academic work in collaboration with industry. We offer a salary according to TV-G-U, internal and external training for professional development, the compatibility of family and career and a free ticket to public transport within the state of Hesse (LandesTicket Hessen).
Application. Formal electronic applications summarized in one PDF document including a cover/motivation letter and CV (including contact data for 2-3 referees) need to be addressed to Prof. Christian Münch (ch.muench@em.uni-frankfurt.de) referencing “2025 Proteomics position”. Travel and application expenses cannot be reimbursed.
The University is committed to gender equality and therefore strongly encourages women to apply. People with disabilities are given priority, if they are equally qualified. In the summer of 2005, Goethe University was awarded the basic certificate for the family-friendly university audit. Great importance is attached to the family-friendly organization of university work contexts. Career re-entry after parental leave is encouraged. Jobs are generally divisible as long as the tasks do not conflict with this. The limitation of the contract is based upon the regulations of the “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz” in conjunction with the “Hessischen Hochschulgesetz”.
