M-2424 POST-DOC IN NANOSECOND PULSED PLASMA LASER SPECTROSCOPY OF

NANOPARTICLES

Temporary contract 36 months Fulltime/40h BelvauxAre you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

The position is with the team of Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics (AINA) group within the Scientific Instrumentation and Process Technology (SIPT) unit of MRT is renowned for developing innovative nano-analytical techniques for materials characterization and life science applications. During the past few years we have been developing in particular a Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) add-on system for various Focused Ion Beam (FIB) platforms, allowing the advantages of high spatial resolution with high sensitivity chemical information to be combined for nano-analytics. Building on this expertise, AINA is currently expanding its research portfolio by developing novel laser based diagnostic techniques for neutral gases, plasmas and nanoparticles.

How will you contribute?

We are excited to launch the project NANObyNANO, recently funded with an INTER grant by the FNR in collaboration with colleagues from the Laboratoire de Physique de Plasmas (LPP), Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, funded by the ANR (https: // anr.fr/fileadmin/aap/2023/selection/aapg-2023-ANR-FNR-selection.pdf ). NANObyNANO aims to develop a fundamental and detailed understanding of nanoparticle (NP) synthesis by plasma. Our experimental approach will feature state-of-the-art in-situ laser diagnostics of spatiotemporal NP growth, using coherent Rayleigh-Brillouin scattering (CRBS), as well as optical diagnostics of plasma properties. The project involves the design, development and operation of a novel atmospheric plasma reactor capable of producing NPs, and its interface with our CRBS instrumentation for the detailed characterization of NP production in such discharges.

We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral researcher with an interest in advanced, non-linear laser diagnostics and their subsequent use to real life applications, such as the characterization of NP nucleation and growth in a nanosecond atmospheric discharge. Specifically, we are looking for a candidate with an interest in diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser engineering as well as high power laser amplifiers, knowledgeable with regards to optical components and optical alignment and characterization techniques. In-depth understanding of optical, atomic and molecular physics is expected. Ultimately, the fundamental understanding developed by NANObyNANO will enable the use of NRP discharges for the production of rationally designed NP with well-defined properties (morphology, composition) in a simple, highly energy-efficient way.

The Post-Doc will work with highly skilled scientists and engineers in the dynamic environment of the Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics (AINA) group. The Post-Doc will acquire highly valued skills in the applications of advanced laser diagnostic techniques as well as working with prototype instruments for gas flow research. The Post-Doc will take a main role in the development of the techniques and instruments mentioned above. He or she will coordinate the local research efforts together with input from international partners; especially with the project's collaborators in LPP. In consultation with the project leader, the Post-Doc will design and perform relevant experiments, analyse and interpret the results, write scientific articles and disseminate the results in international conferences
