伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校(University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign,缩写为UIUC),创建于1867年,位于美国伊利诺伊州双子城厄巴纳–香槟市,是一所公立研究型大学。

Postdoctoral Research Associate

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Job Description

The Applied Research Institute (ARI) in The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to conduct research in the development of high toughness, hierarchically ordered adhesives under the guidance of Dr. Dan Krogstad. This position will work on a recently funded project on the rational design of block copolymer/epoxy adhesives through the development of experimentally validated multiscale models. This position involves performing careful experiments including the formulation, preparation, and characterization of the adhesives including structural, thermal, and rheological characterization. Specific job duties include planning and executing the experimental research, managing and curating the data using FAIR data principles, analyzing the data, disseminating the research through presentation and publications, and coordinating with our modelling and simulation collaborators. We are looking for highly motivated, organized, and collaborative individuals who will rapidly integrate into our dynamic research team.

ARI’s mission is to translate innovation to practice as part of the thriving technology ecosystem at the University of Illinois. Its professional research staff provides translational, multidisciplinary solutions for real-world problems in defense and security, manufacturing, and materials. ARI staff perform research and development leveraging their broad government- and industry-based expertise in algorithm and software development, materials development and characterization, and monitoring, diagnostics, and controls with sensors and data fusion, and workforce training. ARI possesses unique capabilities for open, proprietary, and classified projects and works with collaborators across government, industry, and academia. More information about ARI can be found at http://appliedresearch.illinois.edu/.

Minimum qualifications include:

- A Ph.D. in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

- Laboratory experience in preparation, processing, and characterization of polymers. Preference will be given to experience working with epoxy, block copolymers, and/or ionic liquids

- Demonstrated knowledge of small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), differential scanning calorimetry (DCS), rheology, and/or dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)

- Fundamental understanding of polymer physics, polymer chemistry, rheology, and/or self-assembly

- Demonstrated record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals

- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status preferred

The Postdoctoral Research Associate is a full-time, benefits-eligible position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. This position is available immediately, but the start date is negotiable. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

To apply for this position, please email a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information for three professional references to Dr. Dan Krogstad at dkrogsta@illinois.edu by January 31, 2024.
