Job Description
We seek a post-doctoral Research Fellow to join a new large, collaborative, £8M EPSRC-funded project “Terabotics”, focussing on the development of new terahertz sensing and imaging systems to enable applications in surgical robotics including colonoscopy.
The successful candidate will develop techniques for terahertz (THz) imaging, including the build and use of THz time domain endoscopes, along with free-space THz cameras and sources, ultimately to be used for detection of cancerous tissue in a medical robotics environment.
You will join the world-leading terahertz and robotics groups at the University of Leeds, with state-of-the-art experimental facilities, and will collaborate with other members of the consortium including in the Universities of Warwick and Exeter.
You will have a strong background in the development of and/or use of terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, sensing or imaging systems, applying this to develop novel methods for THz endoscopy. You will make use of our proprietary THz photoconductive on-chip sensors and use a new asynchronous optical laser (ASOPS) system for their measurement. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem solving, and be comfortable interacting day-to-day with academics of all career stages across several institutions. The imaging/endoscopy system development will be conducted in collaboration with Professor Pietro Valdastri at the University of Leeds and Professor Emma Macpherson at the University of Warwick, as well as others in the consortium.
