Postdoctoral Research Associate in Single Cell Biosensing and Actuation

The Mo Lab at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking to recruit two postdoctoral fellows to work on live cell detection and actuation of signaling via genetically encoded tools.

UIC is the largest public university in Chicago, educating over 30,000 students from diverse backgrounds both across the US and abroad. Our lab is located on the west campus, within the Illinois Medical District that combines the strength of four major hospital systems: UI Health, Rush, VA, and Cook County Hospital.

Our laboratory studies the contribution of single cell inflammatory signaling and cell death in health and disease. We are specifically interested in the functions of the membrane proteins and nodal kinases in these pathways. We aim to combine structural insights with de novo design to reveal the next-generation therapeutics for lung injury and inflammation.

We are a caring, curious, and collaborative lab with strong work ethics. Suitable candidates, who will join us in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, must have a Ph.D. degree, preferably in biophysics, bioengineering, pharmacology, or a closely relevant discipline, and a proven capacity for innovative research reflected by publications. The successful applicant will excel in one or more of the following:

• Strong live cell training in fluorescence microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, spectroscopy, electrophysiology, and others

• Extensive programming experience such as Matlab, R, python, C, or other languages for image analysis, machine learning, and single cell bioinformatics

• Firm interest and working knowledge of cell signaling and its biochemistry

• Proficiency in simulation and visualization of protein dynamics is a plus
