Job Description

The Dr. Lin Liu group in the Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases (https://ocrid.okstate.edu/) and the Department of Physiological Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for two postdoctoral research fellows with experience in immunology/microbiology or stem cells/organoids. Dr. Liu’s research programs focus on the understanding of the pathogenesis of respiratory and infectious diseases and the development of diagnostic tools and therapeutics for them. These diseases include non-infectious diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), and infectious diseases such as influenza, COVID-19 and tuberculosis.

The first postdoctoral research fellow will work on a joint tuberculosis project with Dr. Yong Cheng’s group (https://experts.okstate.edu/ycheng; PMID: 30337468; PMID: 30683680) in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oklahoma State University. The project aims to understand the interactions between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and host including non-coding RNAs and other host factors using cell culture and animal models.

The second postdoctoral research follow will work on human lung tissue models using iPSC-derived organoids to investigate respiratory and infectious diseases and/or lung stem cell contribution to the pathogenesis of lung diseases.

The postdoctoral research fellows will work in well-established BSL2/3 and ABSL2/3 facilities with a multidisciplinary team at Oklahoma State University. S/he will also have opportunities to use/learn various advanced technologies such as single-cell RNA-seq, spatial gene profiling, genome-wide CRISPR library screen and big data analysis, and develop professional career skills including presentation, networking and grant writing.

Job Requirements

An ideal candidate will have:

·         A Ph.D. in the field of immunology, microbiology, physiology, cell biology, biochemistry or similar field Prior research experience should include mammalian and bacterial cell culture and/or bacterial infection in cell culture (position 1) or stem cells/organiods (position 2) Experience with standard characterization techniques required Experience with manuscript writing and preparation of figures is required Experience in small animals (mice) is a plus, but not required Must show technical proficiency and have the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary group Must have good record keeping skills Must follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary team setting are mandatory
