挪威特罗姆瑟大学微分几何方向博士后

特罗姆瑟大学(University of Tromsø),是一所国际化大学。位于挪威特罗姆瑟市,它是挪威第三大综合性大学,也是世界上最北端的大学。

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Differential Geometry

University of Tromsø

Faculty of Science and Technology

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Differential Geometry The position

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science and Technology with the research group pure mathematics,

The position is a fixed term position for a duration of two years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.

The workplace will be at UiT-The Arctic University of Norway, campus Tromsø . You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.

The position's field of research

The position will be attached to the project “UiT Aurora Center for Mathematical Structures in Computations” (MASCOT) funded by the UiT Aurora Centers initiative. The MASCOT Center aims to unify and advance research frontiers in the interplay of pure mathematics and computations by exploring fundamental mathematical structures and their increasing significance for modern algorithms and novel program architectures, click here for more details. Researchers will explore the algebraic and geometric nature of computational complexity, and analyze structural methods to reduce this complexity, as well as to adapt these methods to concrete applications in optimization, control theory, and robotics.

The project concerns large computations using structural properties of the objects in order to rigorously prove theoretical results that have been out of reach in the past due to their complexity. The group is active in applications of Lie-theoretic methods to Cartan geometries, symbolic tools to facilitate algebraic computations and the formal theory of differential equations. In particular, the project is related to the following research directions: computation of symmetries of geometric structures and supergeometries, application to shape analysis and image recognition via differential invariants and their discretizations, investigation of classical and super dispersionless integrable systems including group analysis and classifications, application to mathematical physics and in particular to mathematical general relativity and the twistor program.

The position's affiliation

The Faculty of Science and Technology consists of the following departments: Department of Chemistry, Department of Computer Science, Department of Engineering and Safety, Department of Geology, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and Department of Physics and Technology.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a leading research department in algebraic geometry, differential geometry, complex systems modeling, and climate science. It provides education at the bachelor, master, and Ph.D. levels. Around 50 people are employed in the department, at the moment there are 21 PhD positions and 4 postdoctoral positions at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
