Postdoctor position in Engineering materials
Lulea University
Luleå University of Technology experiences rapid growth with world-leading expertise within several research domains. We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results and drawing on our location in the Arctic region, we create global societal benefit. Our scientific and artistic research and education are carried out in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of SEK 1.9 billion. Today, we have 1,815 staff and 19,155 students.
In the coming years, multi-billion investments will be made in large projects in Northern Sweden to create a fossil-free society both nationally and globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.
The Division of Materials Science at Luleå University of Technology invites highly motivated candidates with an interest in conducting research in Engineering Materials with a focus on design of materials for insulation of houses from fossil free materials on a postdoctoral position. The research subject “Engineering Materials” has ongoing research programs that span broad research areas in metallic and ceramic materials (high-temperature intermetallic, space materials, high-strength steels, porous ceramic materials and materials intended for energy recovery). The division is part of the Department of Engineering Science and Mathematics. At the department, there are several other research topics with activities that border on material technology, such as materials mechanics and machine elements. In the undergraduate program, the main two programs focusing on international profile of the Division of Materials Science are important for the department, namely the EEIGM master's engineering program and the AMASE master's program. Within these educations, many students perform project work and degree projects in projects related to our research. The research subject of Engineering Materials consists of five senior researchers, two technicians and nine doctoral students.
Subject description Engineering Materials carries out research on the composition and production of materials as well as on the structure and properties of materials.
Project description The development of the insulation materials from natural minerals, wood, and biomass resources would offer a great advantage since they would provide a way to reduce carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and sequestrate it in the building insulation. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the green buildings by generating sustainable natural minerals and woody biomass- based thermal insulation materials that will minimize environmental pollution but provide high energy efficiency and support a circular carbon-neutral economy. A lot of effort will be put into scaling from laboratory to product development. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely will companies MoRe AB, Nouryon AB and Lindepac AB for the development and scale up of the insulation products.
The experimental work is expected to take place at LTU in the division of materials science and MoRe AB at Örnsköldsvik. The laboratories are equipped with processing facilities, SEM, DSC, TGA, characterization of mechanical property and has access to X-ray diffraction systems with high temperature. The project is planned to start from February 2023 and last for one year and 6 months.
Duties Working as a postdoctoral fellow uses great opportunities to define their daily tasks and how they are to be carried out. You will act and train as a project manager and this is combined with your own education and development.
Qualifications The candidate must have a doctoral degree in materials science, chemistry or chemical engineering and have good knowledge, experience, and a good publication report on porous materials. The candidate must be good at written and oral English. Experience in processing science, porous materials and synthetic chemistry is an advantage.
Information Individuelly salary. The postdoctoral position is located at the Department of Engineering Science and Mathematics, Department of Materials Science. Place of employment is Luleå.
The employment is limited to 2 years.
