Research Associate/Research Fellow - Epidemiologists

Description

The Department of Health Sciences is looking to appoint two Grade 6 or Grade 7 Research Fellows (dependent on skills/experience) with experience in epidemiological methods to lead on and/or contribute to research within a programme of population health work led by the University of York and the Bradford Institute of Health Sciences. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a world-leading preventive research programme, working to improve the life chances of children and families.

Role

Based predominantly at the University of York, you will help to identify policy relevant research questions, investigate associations and trends in exposures and outcomes, analyse data and produce papers/outputs to enable decision making for policies that have the best chances of improving the wellbeing of children and families.

Grade 6

  To conduct research and contribute to the production of research, including applying skills in analysis methods to support the understanding and evaluation of public health research and intervention programmes under the supervision of senior colleagues

  To develop research questions to evaluate policies/interventions that aim to reduce inequalities and improve childhood and family wellbeing

  To lead/support grants, outputs and reports

Grade 7

  To contribute to and/or lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes, supporting the understanding and evaluation of public health research and intervention programmes

  To participate actively in the planning and management of research projects, including supervising others and providing expert advice/guidance

  To contribute to and/or lead external research funding applications

  To contribute to the public understanding of research and scholarship

Condition of appointment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

Grade 6

  First degree or Master's degree with quantitative training

  PhD in epidemiology/quantitative evaluation methods for health research, or similar discipline or equivalent experience

  Knowledge of a range of statistical concepts and methodologies including observational and/or experimental epidemiology and/or natural experiments

  Good competency in a range of statistical methods for analysing large, multi-level datasets, particularly observational and/or experimental epidemiology and/or natural experiments

  Ability to develop/conduct individual and collaborative research projects, with the assistance of a mentor if required

  Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience

Grade 7

In addition to those outlined above for the Research Associate you will need:

  Advanced competency in a range of statistical methods for analysing large, complex, multi-level datasets, particularly observational and or experimental epidemiology and/or natural experiments

  Ability to persuade and influence project stakeholders and develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own/joint research

  Experience of undertaking high quality research and evidenced active participation in the planning and advancement of research

  Proven ability to attract and obtain external research

  Evidence of dissemination of scholarly work
