We have two full-time posts available immediately on a fixed term basis until March 2025 in the Initiative in the Digital Economy at Exeter (INDEX).

These positions could be based in our INDEX offices in London, or in Exeter on our Streatham campus with the opportunity for hybrid working.

Summary of the roles

The Defence Data Research Centre (DDRC) is looking for two Postdoctoral  Research Fellows to join a series of projects focused on advancing best practices in data-driven decision making from the application of data science research and artificial intelligence (AI) within the defence sector.

These roles will investigate accelerators and barriers to moving a large established community toward adoption of advanced digital technologies. Digital technology advances have created alternative ways to reassess the speed of decision making using a variety of data sources, enabled agile approaches to value assessment, and opened up new business model alternatives for ensuring value for money, adaptability, and improved accountability in defence spending. However, all technology advances have intended and unintended consequences for those interacting with it.

The resulting socio-technical issues that arise, from organisational change  to Ethical implications, require careful investigation. We are looking for two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to focus on understanding how these factors will affect the characteristics of any technological solution and its likelihood that it will achieve its objectives.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study such as data science, artificial intelligence and digital transformation and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
