We have an exciting opportunity for those with a background in bioelectrochemical systems.

In GREENER we propose the development of innovative, efficient and low-cost hybrid solutions that integrate bioremediation technologies with bio- electrochemical systems (BES). The synergetic effect of different bioremediation strategies for effective removal of pollutants from water and soil/sediments will be demonstrated, along with the generation of bioelectricity.

About the role:

The Research Assistant/ Research Associate will be involved in testing the ability of soil microbial fuel cells in removing pesticides and hydrocarbons in soils. The technology will be tested both individually and in combination with other bioremediation strategies, such as phytoremediation, biostimulation and bioaugmentation. Polluted soil will be provided by our partners in Ireland and Spain and mathematical modelling performed by our collaborator from Italy will assist on data interpretation. Please note that expertise on bioelectrochemical systems is fundamental for this position.

About you:

We require an individual with expertise in bioelectrochemistry, material science, engineering and closely related fields. You will also have:

  the ability to organise and prioritise own workload to meet required deadlines

  excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills

  self-motivation and the ability work within a team
