Postdoctoral Research Associate in CryoET of Bacterial Communities

University Of Oxford

Description

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT AND PREVIOUS APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT RE-APPLY

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help develop a new research program to study bacterial communities in infection and commensalism by electron cryotomography (cryoET). The successful candidate will creatively use microbiological, fluorescence microscopy and electron cryomicroscopy experiments, adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and data processing protocols. An important aspect of this role is helping with project management and contributing new ideas, collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles, and helping more junior members of the group. This post will have access to excellent cryoEM facilities at the Central Oxford Structural and Molecular Imaging centre (COSMIC) including a Titan Krios, Talos Arctica, Talos F200C and Zeiss Crossbeam 350 with Leica cryostage, and associated peripheral equipment, as well as excellent fluorescence microscopy facilities via Micron in the Department of Biochemistry.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Biophysics or related discipline and should have experience with aseptic technique and live cell fluorescence microscopy and/or with cryoEM sample preparation, data collection and processing. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to manage your time and plan your own experiments. You should be interested in generating new research ideas and being involved in funding applications, as well as helping train students and other lab members.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the John Fell Fund up to 31st January 2024 and is based at the new interdisciplinary Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, within the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

This position is graded on the University's grade 7 scale, for which the salary range is £34,308 to £42,155 per annum. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. Please do NOT include any additional documents, such as transcripts, published papers, manuscripts or certificates.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 28th September 2022, with interviews for shortlisted candidates to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
