This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University's Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Faculty is responsible for the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.
A postdoctoral research associate position is available within the group of Prof. Gavin J. Miller, to carry out research on a project funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC).
This innovative project, in the area of oligonucleotides and biocatalysis, will involve contributing to the chemical synthesis of nucleoside and nucleotide analogue targets. The project is a collaborative venture with Prof. Nick Turner and Dr Sarah Lovelock (University of Manchester) to explore the Biocatalytic Manufacturing of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics .
Applicants must have a PhD (or have submitted a thesis prior to taking up the appointment) in synthetic organic chemistry. Experience with synthetic methodology development for nucleoside or nucleotide chemical synthesis is highly desirable. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, an ability to work independently, and have an organised approach to the management of their research.
The post is available for 12 months initially but with the possibility of extension for another 12. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake research secondments at the partner university as an essential component of the research program. The role will involve supervision of PhD and Masters-level students.
