Senior Postdoctoral Scientist in Vaccine Immunology

Description

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Postdoctoral Scientist in Vaccine Immunology to take on a significant scientific leadership role in the Douglas Group at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will carry out research related to rabies and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) immunology and vaccine development by conducting individual research and supporting the work of other members of the team. You will be analysing detailed and complex data from a variety of sources and developing appropriate analytical protocols and techniques, and managing and supporting other members of the group by agreeing clear task objectives, organising, and delegating work to other members of the team. You will mentor and coach other members of the team to develop their research and analytical skills, and guide them on specialist methodologies and procedures. You will present papers at national and international conferences, and lead seminars to disseminate research findings, and share responsibility for shaping the research group's plans and the writing of group-funding applications for new research projects.

It is essential that you hold a hold a PhD, in immunology or a related field, and have post-doctoral level research experience. You will be able to independently plan and manage scientific projects, including managing the work of other members of the research team and you will have excellent interpersonal and management skills, with experience of collaborative projects and supervising other staff. You will have experience in one or more of the following areas: characterisation of human responses to infection or vaccination in clinical studies; translational vaccine development; or development of immunological assays (especially but not exclusively for antibody characterisation), together with the willingness to work with pre- clinical in vivo models. It is essential that you have a strong publication record in the areas of immunology or vaccine development, and have excellent communication skills.
