Postdoc Research Group Robinson

·Klosterneuburg (Vienna), Austria

· € 57’680* gross/year

· Application Deadline: September 30, 2022

ISTA is growing. Grow with us!

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a growing international institute for conducting frontier research in mathematics, computer science, and the life and physical sciences. We recruit passionate professionals from all over the world and from all fields who support our goals of excellence in research and science management. Located on a beautiful campus on the outskirts of Vienna, we offer numerous opportunities for personal growth in a stable working environment. Get an insight!

The Robinson group focusses on developing statistical methods for large-scale electronic health record and medical genomics data.

Your responsibilities

The Robinson group offers two postdoctoral positions developing statistical methods and algorithms, with a view to facilitating more accurate characterisation of disease phenotypes, improved genetic mapping, and effective therapeutic hypothesis generation. Working with the project partner BoehringerIngelheim, the group seeks to develop and test strategies to: (1) apply time-to-event models developed by the Robinson group towards additional therapeutic areas, to estimate feature-specific effects, and to account for case ascertainment; and (2) develop models that define causal relationships amongst the comorbidities of CMDR diseases. The projects aim to integrate a wide range of genomics data types like bulk expression and epigenetic data sets to help prioritise correlated genetic signals when considering time-to-remission, or event response times. The goal is to nominate variants, genes, and genomic pathways for in-depth follow-up analyses and to reveal for the first time the general pathways underlying treatment response.

Your profile

The Robinson group is seeking excellent, highly-motivated, enthusiastic individuals with good communication skills to join our growing team. Successful candidates will be those with an independent work ethic and focus required to bring large-scale projects from an idea through to fruition. The group is also funded for the next three years by an SNSF Eccellenza Grant, as well as core institute funding. Thus, as well as working with our project partner team, you will also have the opportunity to work alongside three postdoctoral researchers and four PhD students focussed on statistics and method development for the life sciences.
