美国贝勒医学院博士后职位—表观遗传学与人类疾病

Baylor College of Medicine

Postdoctoral Associate- Epigenetics and Human Disease

Summary

The Waterland laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) has been a world leader in epigenetics since 2003, when we were the first to demonstrate permanent effects of maternal nutrition on DNA methylation in agouti viable yellow mice. Our overarching goal is to provide evidence to individuals and policy makers to improve nutrition of pregnant women, infants, and children worldwide. Join our team! We have an immediate opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the phenotypic consequences of systemic interindividual epigenetic variation.

The fellow will take a leading role in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments in humans and mouse models to improve our understanding of how epigenetic differences among individuals affect risk of disease. Current funded projects include 1) screening for and characterizing systemic interindividual epigenetic variants (CoRSIVs, which we first identified) in African Americans, to understand their role in obesity, and 2) identifying and characterizing systemic interindividual epigenetic variants (metastable epialleles) in inbred mice, including physiological experiments testing for phenotypic consequences of individual epigenetic variation. Our studies primarily involve DNA methylation analysis by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing and target-capture bisulfite sequencing. This work is computationally intensive and we have multiple data scientists/computer programmers in the lab, providing a great opportunity for someone with a background in biology, genetics, nutrition, etc., to obtain advanced training in bioinformatics/data science.

We are dedicated to advancing the careers of our trainees, and offer a competitive salary and stimulating work environment with opportunities for advancement. BCM is in the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical center and a vibrant and collaborative research environment. Houston is a large, culturally diverse and thriving metropolis with a relatively low cost of living.

Job Duties

•Evaluates and analyzes data. •We are generating several large genome-scale DNA methylation data sets (whole genome bisulfite sequencing and target-capture bisulfite sequencing). The fellow will develop proficiency in bioinformatic analysis of large epigenomic data sets.

•Plans, directs and conducts research experiments, both in humans and mice. The fellow will help design and conduct wet-bench experiments to test the validity of our computational findings.

•Summarizes and publishes research findings. •The fellow will take the lead in preparing manuscripts for publication, under the guidance of the PI.

Minimum Qualifications

•MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.

•No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

•Recent PhDs with strong publications in a relevant discipline.

•Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills – in English – and be capable of working within a team of biologists and programmers. Individuals already in the US are particularly encouraged to apply.

Baylor College of Medicine requires employees to be fully vaccinated -subject to approved exemptions-against vaccine-preventable diseases including, but not limited to, COVID-19 and influenza.

Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer.
