Description

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham (UoB) and Proteus Instruments Limited (PIL). The Knowledge Transfer Partnership project will develop a low cost, versatile optical water quality sensor for monitoring nutrient and organic pollution in rivers, lakes and costal environments. The sensor will help regulators pinpoint pollution sources and industry/utilities better manage effluents to reduce impacts on the environment.

Please note that the successful applicant will be employed by the University of Birmingham but will be primarily based at Proteus Instruments Limited's premises in Bromsgrove, Birmingham.

About the Role

The successful applicant will work closely alongside the PIL R&D team on sensor development with a particular focus on optimising the optical configuration and statistical tools for interpreting measurements. The Associate will have access to the wet laboratory and the Ecolaboratory flume facility (https: // www. birmingham.ac.uk/research/activity/ecolaboratory/index.aspx) at UoB to enable rigorous assessment of sensor performance. It is anticipated that the Associate will also oversee field trials of the new sensor for PIL customers, develop supporting literature/ training materials and prepare scientific publications for peer review. The Associate will also travel to meet with PIL customers and present findings at scientific conferences and tradeshows.
