新西兰奥塔哥大学博士后—生物化学

Postdoctoral Fellow

University Of Otago

Postdoctoral Fellow - Biochemistry-2201208

SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

About us/Mōmātou

The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. The department is highly research-intensive, with researchers working across diverse interests in biochemistry, genetics, and bioinformatics.

We are part of the University of Otago and located in Dunedin, a culturally vibrant and diverse university city.

The role/Temahi

We seek an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a project funded by a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Smart Ideas grant.

This project seeks to understand the genetic regulation of ryegrass (Loliumperenne) flowering. Ryegrass flowering (or heading) leads to a drastic loss of metabolizable energy, resulting in reduced animal production. Our goal is to provide the knowledge and molecular tools needed to breed ryegrass cultivars that do not head in New Zealand field conditions but can be induced to head for commercial seed production.

Key tasks of this role include designing and performing experiments, presenting research data, liaising with collaborators and assisting with grant applications and manuscript preparation, as appropriate.

Skills and experience/Kāpūkeka me kāwheako

Applications are invited from postdoctoral candidates who have: • Experience in molecular biology and/or genetics. • Experience in bioinformatics and sequencing technologies. • Experience in growing and caring for plants. • A willingness to learn new skills and techniques. • Good oral and written communication skills. • High self-motivation and are able to work in a team. • A strong commitment to research excellence with a high research productivity track record based on international, peer-reviewed publications commensurate for their career stage.

Further details/Pūroko

This is a full-time, fixed term position for one year starting any time before 1 January 2023.

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this role.

Specific enquiries may be directed to Professor Richard Macknight or Dr Lynette Brownfield, Department of Biochemistry, via the contact details below.

The Division is strongly committed to diversity in staffing and encourages applications from women and other under-represented groups who are suitably qualified.
