The Department of Kinesiology offers seven academic programs and a variety of experiences for students. Our academic programs include a BS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in Sports Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science. All of our programs are fully accredited.

Job Duties

The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of Bioenergetics. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of assays of carbohydrate metabolism in primary human skeletal muscle cell cultures, processing the samples after the muscle biopsies, organizing data and communicating with other sites within the consortium. Duties include: performing biochemical assays, overseeing data collection procedures, supervising experimental procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training. Approximately 95% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to organizing and performing experiments on the human primary cell cultures. Approximately 5% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to managing the day-today activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.

Minimum Education/Experience

English Proficiency, Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills, PhD degree (obtained or pending in next 6 months).

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Experience in performing biochemical assays of carbohydrate metabolism using radioisotopes. Experience with techniques such as western blots. Organizing and analyzing data. Quality control for the experiments performed.
