A postdoctoral position is immediately available at the Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital to study the spread mechanism for hepatitis E virus (HEV). Our previous studies have shown that two phylogenetically unrelated hepatitis viruses (HAV and HEV) hijack host membranes during their exit from infected cells, circulating in the bloodstream as ‘quasi-enveloped’ virions that mediate virus spread in the body without being detected by neutralizing antibodies (Nature, 2013; Ann Rev Virol, 2014; J Clin Invest, 2015; J Virol, 2016; PNAS, 2018). Projects will focus on understanding how the quasi-envelopment affects virus spread and host immune responses with the goal to gain new knowledge in virus host interactions and identify novel strategies for intervention.

Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to be highly motivated and have strong research experiences in molecular virology, cell biology and/or biochemistry. Experiences in structural biology or bioinformatics will be a plus but not required.

Minimum requirements: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent. Salary will be based on the NIH scale and commensurate with experience.
