英国斯特林大学博士后职位---用于海洋生物矿化研究的蛋白质分析

Research Fellowin protein analysis for the study of marine biomineralizationUniversity Of Stirling

Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position to work within a new inter-disciplinary NERC funded project, “The Blueprint for marine biomineralization in a changing climate” in the department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Stirling, UK. The aim of this project is to improve understanding of biomineralization in a biogeochemically critical group of marine organisms, the foraminifera. Foraminifera are widely distributed in marine systems and are a major sink for atmospheric CO2 through the long-term, deep-sea burial of their calcite shells. We are seeking a highly motivated independent individual who is also a team player, specialising in protein purification, including the use of FPLC. The successful candidate will be based in Stirling and become part of a wider interdisciplinary team on this project, involving a consortium from the Universities of Glasgow and Exeter, Oregon State University, and led by the University of Stirling.

Job shares will be considered and informal enquiries may be made to Dr Clare Bird, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences (clare.bird2@stir.ac.uk).

Description of Duties

·  As part of the research team, conduct research, including determining appropriate research methods for the extraction, purification and FPLC separation of proteins from our model species, and contributing to the development of new research methods

·  As part of the team, carry out experimental manipulations on benthic (Stirling) and planktonic (California) model species and contribute to field work in California for sample collection

·  Communicate on progress and results within team meetings and contribute to the direction and development of the wider project

·  Write or contribute to publications and disseminate research findings using other appropriate media. Engage in impact and dissemination activities such as conferences, workshops, blogs, and webinars and other knowledge exchange activities to encourage societal impact

·  Co-supervise and provide advice and support to students

·  Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration and identify possible sources for CPD

·  Continually update knowledge, skills and understanding in field or specialismEssential Criteria

·  Honours Degree and PhD in an appropriate discipline, such as cell biology, microbiology, or biochemistry

·  Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in protein biochemistry to develop relevant methodologies

·  Experience using an AKTA and UNICORN software for FPLC analysis.

·  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team

·  Ability to conduct individual research work, to disseminate results via appropriate media such as conferences and publications

·  Evidence of being responsible for a small research project or identified parts of a large project.

·  Self-motivation, initiative and independent thought/working
