Job Summary

Postdoctoral positions are available at Vascular Biology Center, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University (https://www.augusta.edu/centers/vbc/). We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows who are interested in the following topics involved in Vascular Metabolic Disease including Angiogenesis, Atherosclerosis and Diabetes, as well as Inflammaging including Alzheimer’s disease:

1)    Oxidative Stress, Copper metabolism, and Redox Signaling

2)    Mitochondrial dynamics, ROS and metabolism

We use a variety of in vitro and in vivo approaches, including tissue-specific inducible knockout mice, CRISPR/Cas9-generated knock-in mutant mice, animal models, cell cultures, molecular cell biology, ROS and fluorescence imaging, redox proteomics, copper imaging using X-ray fluorescence microscopy, and RNAseq analysis.  Please see our lab website (Tohru Fukai: (https://www.augusta.edu/centers/vbc/tohru-fukai.php), and Masuko Ushio-Fukai: (https://www.augusta.edu/centers/vbc/ushio-fukai.php).

Research Environment

State-of-the-art facilities (CRISPR/Cas9 Gene Editing Transgenic Core, Cell Imaging and Histology/Electron microscopy cores, Flow Cytometry core, Genomics and Proteomics core, Small Animal Behavior and Imaging core, Metabolic monitoring, etc.).  Augusta is a beautiful city located on the Savannah river with driving access to Atlanta, east coast beaches and the North Carolina mountains.

Required Qualifications

MD, Ph.D., MD/PhD, or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

A background in any of the following areas:

• Mitochondria and ROS Metabolism, Fluorescence Imaging, Retina Angiogenesis, Inflammation, Vascular Aging, Alzheimer’s disease
