The Department of Chemistry at Syracuse University welcomes applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher who has expertise in biochemistry and/or cell biology. This position is available in the Carlos Castaneda lab in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biology.
Qualifications
Have a PhD or nearing completion of a PhD in cell biology, microscopy, or biochemistry, with interest in expanding skillset to biophysics. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and seeks candidates that will actively contribute to this mission.
Job Specific Qualifications Responsibilities
Lead and be a team player in designing and executing new cell-based experiments using mammalian cell culture and/or experiments using in vitro purified proteins that pursue new hypotheses on assembly and disassembly of biomolecular condensates / membraneless organelles.
Use biochemical and biophysical techniques to characterize proteins and/or other macromolecule interactions using proteins expressed and purified from bacterial cells.
Use state-of-the-art microscopy methods to detect and characterize condensates and aggregates in cells and examine their response to different stresses.
Communicate results clearly both in oral and written formats including talks, poster sessions, and journal articles.
Write detailed experimental protocols and keep carefully-detailed lab notebooks to ensure reproducibility.
Be a team player in the lab by mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, purchasing supplies, maintaining instrumentation, participating in literature discussions, and participating in writing proposals.
