Postdoctoral position: RNA Epigenetics and Immunology

Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow is available within the RNA and Stem Cell Biology group of Dr. Cristian Bellodi at the Lund University Stem Cell Center, Sweden. Our laboratory focuses on new post-transcriptional facets of gene expression control in stem and cancer cells at a molecular, cellular, and organismal level. Our group uncovered a critical role for RNA modifications and translation control in directing normal and malignant stem cell function (Guzzi et al., Cell 2018; Cieśla et al. Mol Cell 2021). Based on our pioneering work, novel research lines to study the in vivo role of RNA modifications and metabolism in development and cancer are available in our lab.

Specifically, we are looking for new team members interested in unveiling how dysregulation of RNA modifications, including pseudouridine and ribose 2’-O-methylation, molecularly impact normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The successful candidate will access unique genetic models and combine a wide array of biochemical methods and cutting-edge sequencing and proteomics approaches to dissect RNA modification-dependent molecular pathways in the immune system with a single-cell resolution. Furthermore, he/she should be interested in the clinical application of basic science to treat hematological and solid cancers associated with stem cell dysfunction.

Main goals

•Dissect the contribution of RNA modifying enzymes on mammalian hematopoiesis with an emphasis on hematopoietic stem cells, myeloid and lymphoid lineages

•Uncover RNA epitranscriptomic pathways in cancer using RNA modification-deficient leukemia mouse models and patient-derived xenografts

•Study the effects of RNA modifications on the transcriptome and translatome of hematopoietic stem cell populations in physiological and stress conditions

•Apply and develop in-depth molecular profiling of distinct hematopoietic  cell populations

About us

Our laboratory is embedded within the Division of Molecular Hematology of the Lund Stem Cell Center (LSCC), an internationally ranked research center within the strategic areas of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Lund University, Scandinavia’s largest institution for education and research. Our team provides a vibrant and international research environment consisting of postdocs, technical staff, PhD, and master students who share a common interest in understanding how RNA epigenetics impacts development and disease. As part of the LSCC, group members have access to state-of-the-art LSCC core facilities and the opportunity to attend courses, seminars, and workshops by national and international experts within crucial areas of RNA, immunology, and cancer  biology.

Essential Skills and Requirements

We are looking for highly motivated basic and clinical researchers with a recent Ph.D. (preferably less than three years) and proof of productive research. Candidates should have significant experience with mouse work (e.g., handling, breeding, dissection, transplantation, etc.), murine and human primary and cancer cell culture, immunostaining, advanced flow cytometry to study mammalian hematopoiesis. Strong knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology methods (e.g., RNA/DNA isolation, cloning, gene silencing, CRISPR gene editing, etc.) and genome-wide approaches (e.g., CLIP-seq, ribosome/polysome profiling, scRNA-seq, SHAPE-seq, ATAC-seq, etc.) is highly preferred. The successful applicant is expected to work independently and collaborate with other team members. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required.
