Postdoc in Nanocarrier Drug Delive

Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

DTU Health Tech is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the ocular drug delivery research group, led by Assoc. Prof. Andrew Urquhart, to work on light driven nanocarrier transport within the eye.

The Job

We are exploring the potential of laser light as a mechanism to drive nanocarriers to the retina and optic nerve. This ambitious and challenging interdisciplinary project is a collaboration between Prof. Anders Kristen (optofluidics), Assoc. Prof Jonas Pedersen (physical modelling) and Assoc. Prof. Andrew Urquhart (ocular drug delivery). We believe that our technology has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of vision threatening diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. The successful candidate will join the ocular drug delivery research group working predominantly on nanocarrier design, synthesis and characterization. There will be interdisciplinary research aspects involving optofluidics, ex vivo eye models and modelling. As such, the successful candidate will possess an interdisciplinary mindset with a personal drive to learn new fields of scientific research. This position holds a unique opportunity to drive a new technology that holds considerable potential in ocular drug delivery research and patient healthcare.

Responsibilities

Your overall focus will be the design, synthesis and characterization of lipid and protein based nanocarriers. Nanocarriers will be labelled with appropriate markers (e.g. fluorophores) and loaded with small molecule drugs or biologics. You will work with collaborators and their corresponding research teams. Your primary tasks will be:

•Design, synthesis, functionalization and characterization of lipid and protein based nanocarriers.

•Conduct data analysis and disseminate results in peer reviewed research articles.

•Provide input in the evaluation of project data.

•Clearly communicate, document and store results obtained.

•Support optofluidic, ex vivo eye models and modelling experiments. This will involve providing samples, working alongside collaborators (e.g. in data collection) and potentially learning to perform experiments in these areas.

•Co-supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students in the ocular drug delivery group.

Qualifications

You must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in a physical science (e.g. chemistry, biophysics, pharmaceutics etc.) with a focus on nanocarrier drug delivery systems. You will have the following qualifications:

•Extensive knowledge of lipidic and protein based nanocarriers.

•Experience with lipidic and/or protein nanocarrier synthesis and functionalization (e.g. antibody conjugation, fluorophore conjugation etc.)

•Experience with liquid chromatography and dynamic light scattering techniques.

•Experience within ocular drug delivery, tissue handling and/or mass spectrometry is an advantage.

We offer

DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.
