Our team “Electrochemical Energy Storage” focuses on fundamental aspects of novel battery concepts like sulfur cathodes and lithiated silicon anodes. Our aim is to understand the fundamental mechanisms that lead to their marked capacity fading. We have a strong expertise on operando studies of battery systems, which is closely connected to our efforts to synthesize new carbon nanostructures as cathodes for lithium/sulfur cells. To support our team, we are looking for a postdoc to further the development of metal-based catalysts.

Your tasks

  Conceptual design of a metal-based catalyst for the cathode of Li-S batteries

  Synthesis and direct processing of metal-based catalysts with high efficiency and high purity

  Design and fabrication of high-performance sulfur electrodes with metal- based catalysts

  Investigation of the electrochemical mechanism of Li-S pouch cells and their application in Li-S batteries (in both liquid and polymer-based solid-state electrolytes).

  Design and assembly of pouch cell for Li-S battery

  Investigation of the electrochemical mechanism of Li-S pouch cells by in- situ/operando as well as ex-situ techniques (for example, Raman, UV-vis, XPS, etc.).

  Preparation and discussion of measurement data for internal meetings and scientific publications

Your profile

  Successfully completed scientific university studies in electrochemistry or a related field with a doctorate

  Expertise in direct dispersion, large-scale processing and engineering of metal-based catalysts in Li-S battery

  Research experience in in-situ electrochemical characterizations, such as in-situ Raman, UV-vis, XRD, etc.

  Research experience in design of pouch cell configuration and assembling of pouch cells

  Excellent written and spoken English skills

  Interdisciplinary team working skills with high independency

  Outstanding academic performance and publications

  Knowledge in project management

Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
