The leukemia research group at the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich has an opening for a highly motivated, creative Postdoc to investigate the diversity of programmed cell death mechanisms (apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, etc) with the ultimate goal to exploit these to overcome drug resistance and fight resistant disease. Based on a large biobank of primary human leukemia xenografts (Blood 2010), we have established CRISPR-based genome editing technologies in primary patient-derived xenograft models and take advantage of a functional imaging-based screening platform to identify disease phenotypes across leukemia (Science Translational Medicine 2016; Science Advances 2019; Blood 2017). More recently, we identified biomarkers for necroptosis activation as specific vulnerability in leukemia (Blood Advances 2020). We use cutting edge functional genomic and cell biological approaches in the context of molecular mechanisms of drug resistance in childhood leukemia. The position provides the unique opportunity to identify fundamental cell death processes in the setting of a relevant disease context.
