Postdoctoral Fellow in Multi-Omics Investigation of Cardiac Disease in Humans

Copenhagen University

Description

Job Description

The Cardiac Proteomics Group at Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen wishes to appoint a talented postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year position for a joint proteomics, transcriptomics, and genomics project investigating the underpinnings of cardiac disease. The postdoctoral fellow will use quantitative proteomics- based approaches to identify the molecular changes in cardiac disease in an unbiased manner from human heart biopsies. From the same biopsies, the fellow will obtain WGS and single cell transcriptomics data and integrate this information across the omics datasets acquired. This will lead to investigation of the cardiac disease at unprecedented molecular level.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our team, who will work on a large scale project investigating the molecular changes in heart disease by state-of-the-art measurements from human heart biopsies.

Qualification Requirements

  Holds a Ph.D. in a highly quantitative field including but not limited to Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering or Computational Physics

  Ambitious, creative, independent and self-driven

  Hands on skills and expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  Experience with downstream analysis of data dependent/independent acquisition (DDA/DIA) LC-MS/MS data

  Experimental know-how of mass spectrometry-based proteomics (LC-MS/MS)

  Analytical know-how of single cell/bulk RNAseq data

  Analytical experience with genomics data

  Experience integrating different types of omics data

  Excellent programming skills, fluency in Python and R programming languages as well as sound knowledge of statistical data analysis

  Experience analyzing data from fixed, embedded tissue samples is a strength

  Prior experience within molecular cardiac research is an advantage but not a requirement

  Good communication skills in English, both oral and written

The preferred applicant should have an excellent academic track record, solid research experience and be highly motivated to deploy diverse strategies to extract novel findings of importance to cardiac pathophysiology. Previous research experience in a competitive environment is required.

Our group and environment The candidate will be part of the Cardiac Proteomics group led by Professor Lundby at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The successful candidate will be working in a team of scientists across multiple scientific fields focused on improving our molecular understanding of cardiac pathophysiologies. Our facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories and core facilities as well as modern office spaces. The position provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise in cutting edge quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics, data analysis of large datasets and integration of multi-omics datasets. Striving for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility, we offer creative, friendly and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and strong scientific environment where you get the opportunity to plan your work independently to further your professional and personal development.

Salary and terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). Any negotiation for allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

Workplace and period of employment Workplace is located at Maersk Tower, The Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The period of employment is 2 years. Suggested start date is primo 2022.
