Description

The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with its 1,100  employees has gained an excellent reputation as an international competence  centre for environmental sciences. We are part of the largest scientific  organisation in Germany, the Helmholtz association. Our mission: Our research  seeks to find a balance between social development and the long-term protection  of our natural resources.

The Department of Physiological Diversity is part of the German Centre for  Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) and the Helmholtz Center for  Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany.

Our research program focuses broadly on testing and developing ecological  theory to explain species coexistence and the impacts of global change on  biodiversity. For our project NutNet Europe (NEu) we offer a position as:

Postdoctoral Scientist (f/m/x) NutNet Europe (NEu)  Project

Working hours: 100% (39 h/week), limited to a maximum of 2,5 years (subject  to funding), starting 1st January 2022

Your tasks:

This postdoc position will have a focus on some combination of the  following:

  Expanding and connecting the global experimental networks Nutrient Network  (https: // nutnet.org//) and DRAGNet (https: // nutnet.org/dragnet)

  Expanding our networks in Eastern and Mediterranean Europe

  Synthesising regional, especially European, biodiversity data and  experimental responses

  Impacts of nutrient pollution on biodiversity and ecosystem  functioning

  Theory and mechanisms of coexistence

  Application of new sensor technologies

Your profile:

  Strong organizational and communication skills

  PhD degree in community ecology or equivalent field with a strong  background in theoretical and/or experimental biodiversity research

  Very good knowledge of written and spoken English, basic knowledge of  German language desirable or commitment to learn

  Ability to travel and do field work (including a driving license valid in  Europe)

  Team player, high motivation for interdisciplinary and international  scientific cooperation

  Ability to prepare high-impact manuscripts for international journals  independently
