University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth)

Postdoctoral positions in skeletal muscle metabolism and vascularization

NIH-funded post-doctoral positions are available to examine the transcriptional regulation of angiogenesis, mitochondrial metabolism and regeneration in skeletal muscle ischemia as it pertains to Peripheral Arterial Disease and Muscular Dystrophies. For this work, we will use molecular targeting in in vitro cellular systems (e.g. muscle, endothelial cells) and in in vivo murine skeletal muscle disease models (Diet-induced obesity, Hindlimb ischemia, Muscular dystrophy) to investigate orphan receptor signaling in ischemic diseases.

Information on our research program, which encompasses transcriptional regulation in metabolism, angiogenesis and regeneration, can be obtained at: https://www.uth.edu/imm/faculty/profile?id=7db27eb9-5758-4584-877f-adaa60dbbecb

This position requires:

1. A recent or graduating PhD candidate with peer-reviewed 1st author publications in vascular, mitochondrial and/or skeletal muscle biology.

2. Extensive experience and hands-on technical training in one or more areas including molecular and cell biology, skeletal muscle histo-morphology and physiology, ischemia/angiogenesis, and mitochondrial dynamics.

3. Multi-tasking, creativity, independence, methodical approach to experimental design, excellent written and oral communication skills, and good interpersonal skills, along with strong commitment to succeeding in a research-oriented career.

Interested candidates meeting the above requirement should apply by email (Vihang.a.narkar@uth.tmc.edu) to Vihang Narkar, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Hamman Foundation Distinguished Professorship in Cardiovascular Research, Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine, The University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston, TX, 77030. Please include a cover letter briefly describing research interest and future goals, detailed CV, and contact information for 3-4 referees.
