We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to work on the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5A protein in the laboratory of Prof. Mark Harris. You will use a range of molecular virology approaches to study NS5A of HCV genotype 3 (GT3). GT3 infection is of major concern as exhibits high levels of resistance to the new direct acting antivirals that are used to treat HCV infection, and also results in a more rapid progression to chronic liver disease compared to other genotypes. This MRC funded project seeks to understand both the mechanism of NS5A antiviral resistance and the role of the protein in the unique pathogenesis of GT3 infection. To achieve this, it will exploit recently developed GT3 culture systems, and perform functional analysis of clinical samples obtained in collaboration with the HCV Research UK Biobank.

You will have a background in molecular virology ideally with experience of working at Biological Safety Level 3. You will join a team of researchers focusing on mechanisms of positive strand RNA virus replication, host-cell interactions and development of novel antivirals. You will be organised and willing to work collaboratively as part of a team.
