A Senior Research Associate (postdoctoral) position is available to undertake exciting and ambitious research as part of the EU H2020 project “Foundations of Trustworthy AI - Integrating Reasoning, Learning and Optimization (TAILOR)”.

The EU H2020 project (TAILOR) is one of four AI networks in the H2020 program ICT-48 Towards a vibrant European network of AI excellence centres. The purpose of TAILOR is to build the capacity of providing the scientific foundations for Trustworthy AI in Europe by developing a network of research excellence centres leveraging and combining learning, optimization and reasoning. Lancaster University contributes to make AI systems explainable by developing methods and guidelines to novel AI systems capable of interacting with users with different backgrounds and needs, revealing the “Why?”, “Why not?”, “What if?” and capable to generate multimodal explanations and quantifying the degree of interpretability.

The candidate should have a background in computer science, computer engineering, or related areas with past experience on the practical implementation and development of image processing and machine learning. Further, a good understanding of explainable AI is beneficial. The outcome of the research must contribute to the projects but it is also expected that the results are published in high-quality research papers in order to disseminate results. A PhD or equivalent degree in computer science or a closely-related field is required for this position. The ideal applicant will have a track record of high-quality publications in areas of relevance to the projects and the willingness to undertake ambitious and challenging research.
